Academic Programs Overview

The academic programs at the Tufts European Center in Talloires, provide students with a unique opportunity to gain a wide range of academic and personal skills in an extraordinary setting. Courses are designed to take advantage of the region and resources in the region, around Talloires, in order to enhance classroom learning. Students live throughout the greater Annecy area with host families, which provides them with opportunities to experience local cuisine, customs, and family firsthand.

Tufts in Talloires (undergraduate students, for credit):

For undergraduate students at Tufts and other universities, Tufts in Talloires is a six-week summer program that offers students the opportunity to take two credit-bearing courses, chosen from a wide selection of Tufts undergraduate offerings. French is not required to learn from Tufts’s esteemed faculty in this unique setting.

Tufts in Annecy (undergraduate students, for credit):  

Tufts in Annecy offers university students an opportunity to improve their beginner or intermediate French language skills in a very inspiring environment.  Classes are taught at a French language Institute in Annecy, located just a few miles north of Talloires, by native French speakers who are experts in developing speaking listening, grammar, writing and reading skills.  Tufts in Annecy offers students credits for Tufts French 1, 2, 3 OR 4 class.

Tufts Summit (high school, rising juniors and seniors, for enrichment):  

The Tufts Summit program is designed to offer a select group of rising high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to take a non-credit college-level course on International Relations, while being immersed in French language and culture.  Classes are complemented by an excursion to Geneva, and students also enjoy a host of extracurricular activities like hiking and swimming. Students live with carefully selected host families, most often with another student. Students learn first-hand about local daily life and culture, by sharing meals, conversations and outings with their host families, which goes well beyond what can be learned from a textbook.
