Emergency Protocols

The European Center staff will discuss emergency protocols with all students during our pre-departure session and orientation on-site in Talloires. We have highlighted the main protocols below, should students need to refer back to this page.

In the event of a political, social, or natural emergency, students on a Tufts European Center program will be asked to do the following:

  1. Remain alert to surroundings.
  2. Follow instructions issued by police if they are involved in the situation.
  3. If you are not in a safe place, and you are able to move safely, get to a safe place as soon as possible.
  4. Contact the European Center (via the office phone, Director, Assistant Director, or emergency phone) as soon as possible, when you are in a safe place.
  5. Stay tuned to news reports.
  6. Contact parents or guardians as soon as possible – again, once you are in a safe place.

The Director will phone and/or text all students, and they will be instructed to contact the Director within two hours to confirm their whereabouts. All students must have a working cell phone during the program and must be reachable by European Center staff.
