Standards and Policies
The Tufts University European Center is committed not just to your health and safety, but also to creating and maintaining and environment that is characterized by integrity and consideration among members of its community.
When you participate in a program at the Tufts European Center, you agree to conduct yourself with the same standards of academic and social responsibility that are required on the Tufts Medford/Somerville campus. All of the Tufts policies that dictate standards of conduct in the US also apply to the European Center and its programs in Talloires.
All students who participate in a program at the Tufts European Center are required to act in accordance with:
- Policies set out in the Tufts University Code of Conduct
- Laws of our host country
- Conditions of Participation set by the Tufts European Center (provided upon registration in a program)
Learning Management Systems
Tufts uses the Canvas Learning Management System for all courses. Canvas provides a collaborative space for course content, assignments, and grading. Canvas is also the platform used by Tufts virtual courses and programs. Most instructors will host course material (syllabus, readings, review questions, etc.) on a Canvas course site.
Zoom is used to allow students to connect virtually for lectures, webinars, breakout sessions, one-on-one mentoring, phone calls, chat sessions, and when classes are recorded for posting on Canvas.
Textbooks Policy
Students are expected to purchase all of the required reading materials for each course or program. Students are strongly advised to purchase any required textbooks ahead of the start of the course. Please contact your instructor if you expect purchasing any materials to be a problem for you.
Textbooks can be purchased for mailed delivery from the Tufts bookstore in the Mayer Campus Center (46 Professors Row) or through online booksellers (like Amazon) or through any retailer that you might find. Please note that Tufts University does not endorse any particular retailer, these recommendations are offered only as points of information.

Sexual Misconduct Policy
Sexual misconduct violates the dignity of individuals. It violates the university’s core values, including its commitment to equal opportunity and inclusion, and will not be tolerated. It is a form of discrimination based on sex or gender that violates federal Title IX regulations and is prohibited by Tufts Sexual Misconduct Policy.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Tufts prohibits discrimination against and harassment of any student, employee, applicant for employment, third party, patient, visitor or community member because of: race; color; national or ethnic origin; age; religion; disability; sex; sexual orientation; gender; gender identity and expression; including a transgender identity; genetics; veteran status; retaliation; and any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law, herein called “protected categories.” The university expects all Tufts employees, students, visitors, patients and community members to join with and uphold this commitment.
The Tufts Office of Equal Opportunity

Clery Act
In compliance with the Clery Act, Tufts annually publishes a summary of the incidents of crimes of various categories which occur on the several campuses that are part of the university. The overseas programs that Tufts operates at affiliated institutions are included in this report, which can be found at the Tufts University Public Safety website.
