Getting to Know the Tufts Summit Program

On our campus in Medford/Somerville and among our broader community, the European Center is quickly associated with the Tufts in Talloires program, the six-week summer program that brings a large group of Tufts undergraduates and faculty to Talloires. Our French language immersion program, Tufts in Annecy, is also a familiar name in our university community. But what do you know about our Tufts Summit program? Tufts Summit is a four-week program for rising high school juniors and seniors that focuses on International Relations and French language and culture. Here are three fun facts about the program:

Tufts Summit students benefit from experiential learning.

The Summit group has the opportunity to see international relations in action, with guest speakers and visits to some of the NGOs and international organizations in Geneva. The IR simulations they participate in also give students the opportunity to put their learning into action. In addition, students get to engage their French skills every day: interacting with their host family, ordering food at the boulangerie, and generally being part of the local Talloires community!

The Tufts Summit students have come from all over the world.

We have welcomed Summit students from every corner of the U.S., and even from many places around the globe! Each year, we are excited to bring our group of enthusiastic students together to share ideas, collaborate, and get to know each other. Our Summit students are passionate about immersing themselves in French language and global affairs.

After the program, our students go on to do exciting things.

Many of our program alumni go on to serve in a range of internationally focused roles. Some have worked with large institutions in international development, such as USAID, the U.S. Department of State, and the Peace Corps. Others have pursued careers in teaching and law. No matter their professional trajectory, when we reconnect with alumni, they share a common sentiment: that the Tufts Summit experience was transformative, and even life-changing.
